Congratulations to the Tornadoes 12U 2008 Bellingham Fall Ball ChampionshipThe 2008 Tornado summer season was another successful one with 4 out of the 6 eligible teams making the league playoffs. The program is sponsored by the Franklin Girls Softball Association and gives the girls the opportunity to play Fastpitch softball at a more competitive and committed level. The Franklin Tornadoes enter teams in both the Twin Valley Softball League and the Hockomock Softball League. These leagues are comprised of teams from surrounding towns in an age range of 8 or 9 to 17 or 18. The regular season League games begin in late June and end in late July or early August. Once the teams in the various age brackets are selected after try-outs in late April, each respective teams' coach may begin practices (generally on Sundays while the recreational season is being played). It is at the discretion of the coach as to when their practices will be held once the season begins (possibly during the week or weekends) as well as whether his or her team will enter local tournament(s) which are played on weekends. Both the Twin Valley and Hockomock League games are during the week (generally two games per week). Depending on the age bracket, each League also has playoffs and a championship game. Given the number of League games, play-off games and possible weekend tournament play, it does require a higher level of commitment during the summer. The cost varies, but will include a registration fee of approximately $50 (which covers insurance, softballs, some equipment, umpires, socks & Tornado visors and the maintenance of the fields) and the cost of the Tornado uniforms.
